Karigan G'ladheon is the daughter of a merchant, who has just run away from college after knocking down an aristocrat's son in response to his torments. Stumbling across a King's messenger - one of the famous Green Riders - dying in the road, she takes up his message, most unwillingly, and finds herself in the centre of a web of deceit and sorcery.
